ESXi host disconnected from vCenter

I encountered this error for the first time yesterday.

Error in vCenter
Error in vCenter

My host was disconnected from the cluster but the VMs were still up and running fine.  It was also accompanied with a nice, very long pop up error.

Cannot synchronize host vm10sesx10.hscil.ads. A general system error occurred:
Unexpected exception reading HTTP response body: class Vmacore::Http::TruncatedResponseException(While determining chunk size, truncated HTTP response.) with trace:

and so forth...you get the idea

I followed the KB article posted on VMware’s site KB2009217

I SSH’d into the problem host and ran

# find /vmfs/volumes/*/* -iname *delta*

Noting the VM with the rogue snapshots, I then used VI Client to connect directly to the ESXi host. From there, I was able to consolidate the disks and then reconnect the host to vCenter. Increasing the Thread Stack size beforehand did not allow me to reconnect the host. The issue came from VDR backups gone awry. I’ll have to keep a better eye on those backups.

Yes, it’s another blog

Yes, I’m a woman and in Infrastructure. Shocking I know!

Forever one of the guys.  Hopefully, with the powers of the web, we can get10984505_826109020796096_4730121322498324854_o more women into this field.  I started out as most of us do; a lowly help desk technician.  I did have a brief gig in web design but we know how well that market is going.  From there , I did some time in telecom (not my cup of tea) and then networking.  Wearing multiple hats at a company, finally landed me into the land of virtualization.  Be still my heart!  I love this field and it is forever changing.  I hope to add some of my findings and experiences to join some of the people and sites that have helped me along the way.
